The origins of this style are disputed either it was designed for fishermen in Norway or for navigational engineers ('navvies') in England during the 1800s. Either way, both were looking for a more water resistant shoe. The higher apron seam, and 'skin stitch' toe seam (the thread doesn't go completely through the leather) help
